Fearing the possible spread of the corona virus among housemates, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has recently asked that the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission to stop the airing of Big Brother Naija.
The reality show, which had recently entered its fifth season this July, is one of the most watched programmes in Nigeria.
Armstrong Idachaba, the acting director-general of the NBC, had told senior management members that he had been directed by the minister to shut down the show using fears of the spread of COVID-19 as reason.
According to reports, Mohammed had wanted the letter concerning the shutting down of the show to come from the NBC due to the general opinion that he is responsible for launching the political moves against MultiChoice.
However, the NBC management was not well pleased to the move to shut down BBN, with some of them saying there was no basis for it.
