ECOWAS Seeks End To Terrorist Attacks In Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Others

ecowasCalling for the urgent need to tackle the surge of terrorist attacks in the region, especially in Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, the 44th Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council has been held on Friday, 4th September 2020 in Niamey, the Republic of Niger.

ECOWAS Ministers urged the regional body to take necessary steps to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming presidential polls in five of the member states Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Niger.

The meeting was presided by Kalla Ankourao, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Niger who is the Chair of the council and it tends to review the political and security situation in the region, with particular emphasis on the political processes in the Gambia and Guinea Bissau.
