Court Remands Four Policemen For Torturing Citizen To Death

A Magistrate Court sitting in Rivers State, has held four policemen in custody at the Correctional Center for the torturing of Chima Ikwunado which led to his death.

The policemen were said to be members of the Eagle Crack, a special squad under the state police command. The police command had dismissed the operatives which were identified as Ayogu Fidelis, Rose Georgewill, Eke Chibuzor and Egbunefu Felix, for unprofessional conduct of duty.

The suspect were arraigned before the Magistrate Court on Tuesday 7, July for seven-count of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful assault.

However, they pleaded not guilty when they charges were read to them.

Promise Iruanya the Chief Magistrate, had declined all forms of bail for the suspects and ordered that the case file should be transferred the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Iruanya also added that the court does not have the jurisdiction to hear the matter and adjourned the case to September 19th for legal advice.
