The executive governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde on Tuesday has ordered the immediate release of N100 million for the purpose of renovatingy the palce of the Soun of Ogbomoso’s after the violence that took place in Ogbomoso axis of the state during the ENDSARS protest.
The violence that occured during the protest had led to the destruction of the property owned by Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade’s palace.
Governor Makinde made the announcement during a sympathy visit to the palace of the traditional ruler, in the company of top government functionaries, the Speaker, Oyo state Hosue of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, and some lawmakers. A condolence visit was also made to the family of the deceased- Jimoh Isiaka and two other victims of the violence.
The governor also explained that the protest is beyond the EndSARS as most Nigerians have become frustrated over the recent harshness in the economy and if the government fails to address, the idleness of the youths coupled with unemployment might erupt a future disaster.
Appealing to the Soun for forgiveness on behalf of the perpetrators, Governor Makinde gave the assurance that the government would meaningfully engage the youths population to douse the tension and prevent a possible recall.
In his response, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oyewunmi after appreciating the visit urged the government to wake up to it numerous responsibilities stating that traditional institution would continue to play its role in supporting the government for a better society.
